The Federalist Society is a nationwide network of non-partisan conservative and libertarian judges, scholars, lawyers and law students dedicated to fostering balanced and open debate about the fundamental principles of freedom, federalism, and judicial restraint. The Federalist Society was founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.
The Federalist Society at UCLA is committed to providing a diversity of views on campus through informed debate about how limited constitutional government based on the rule of law can have a positive effect on law and public policy.
